Hi there, I'm Ashe.
Ashe de la June

After many years in IT tech support and web dev, I unexpectedly ventured onto a new path. Now I'm in my thirties and have a double degree in Earth Sciences! I am raising fowl, a goat, a horse, four cats and a husband. I spend my free time in the garden and with my animals. Currently, my long-suffering husband and I sleep with one of our cats in the bedroom with a young pullet in a cat cage on a shelf who refuses to sleep with the other chickens! It strangely works out. My husband is an aspiring author writer and often blogs a story about our lives on the farm etc.

I am passionate about chickens, cats, web design, blogging, Pinterest, sprouting seeds, taking cuttings and other gardening, trialling make-up and hair products, baking, writing stories, spinal disabilities, making things and offering all kinds of advice to people.

Being one who loves to read, TaintedBlood.org is an old URL I purchased in 2002, inspired by the Margaret Weis science fiction fantasy Star of Guardians series of novels. Jazhiaran and Ashe are the names of rpg characters I created in the 90s inspired by the Raymond E. Feist fantasy novels following Pug the magician.

Hair products for difficult, fine, tangle-bound hair - review L'Oreal Elvive Fibralogy

It has been quite a while since I last posted regarding my hair problems and solutions. I now seek to update you on products I've used since last I spoke of my hair.

This is my honest, unpaid review of L'Oreal Elvive Fibralogy shampoo, conditioner and double-serum.

I don't expect everybody to have the same experience I do with this set of products, as my hair has unique problems I caused as well as it being incredibly fine, protein hating and thin to begin with.
My issues are that I have very long, light-coloured hair that I stripped of dark brown in 2012 after years of that colour, and I haven't had more than one hair trim since then, so there is a lot of damage at the ends of my hair and chemical burn at the back top from the process of stripping and recolouring to my natural colours.

To the right, you can see from my photo that I have very long, light-coloured hair. An added problem is that I also live on tank water which is refilled with poor quality town water.

In Sydney, my hair was in perfect condition aside from chemical damage from colouring my hair dark brown, then black, getting it stripped and dyed orange-red, then stripping it again, toning, then colouring it red, purple, blue, etc.

I rarely colour my hair now, but the damage has been done - and since I rarely get the ends trimmed, the damage remains.

Since moving back to Tasmania I have moved house four times since the last post regarding my hair and have experienced a multitude of different water quality problems. Each time I've been on tank water. Now I am back at the same place I left from with the horrible water deliveries for my tank. Honestly, the L'd town-water is disgusting - the storage tank must need a good cleanup. That is not likely to happen though.
Before I left a rental in the lower midlands I discovered the L'Oreal Elvive Fibralogy products. The water there wasn't too bad, but it was still tank water and heavier than desired.
I discovered there that L'Oreal Elvive Fibralogy does not thicken my hair, but it does make it oily.

I have used the three products for over a year now, and no thickness has been noted.
The reason I continue to purchase L'Oreal Elvive Fibralogy is that it helps keep my crunchy tangle-bound hair from taking several ours to brush. By using a mixture of:
  • conditioning twice in the shower,
  • leaving the conditioner in without rinsing the second time
  • not wringing the water from my hair,
  • wrapping towel around hair for a few minutes
  • then shaking water out of my hair,
  • going on to use a boar bristle brush, the Tangle Teezer brush and my fingers
I can obtain tangle-free hair within half an hour. It is still annoying, but when you have long hair, it is a given to take a while unless you have awesome hair genes.

I wash my hair daily, and even when I tried using the conditioner once and not leaving it in I noted that using the shampoo and the conditioner will leave my hair greasy within days. Add onto that the double-serum and my hair is a grease pit.
I have to use a dry shampoo to degrease my scalp area when my hair is dry. I use $3 product from Target Girlz Only dry shampoo in blonde.

In so saying, I review the L'Oreal Elvive Fibralogy shampoo, conditioner and double-serum as bogus regarding thickening fine hair - but the ability to brush the knots from my hair whilst wet within 30 minutes? I'm sold.
